NOTE: I tried to set this up with Mail 4.4 and haven’t gotten it to work properly on all machines with Mail 4.4 installed. This is of course after the 10.6.5 update. It works/worked with Mail 4.3 and 10.6.4 – fyi.

The trick is to move the folder with all your Mail RSS fees into your Dropbox. This folder contains all of your RSS feeds as well as your .plist files to mark an article read or unread.

First make sure Mail is closed on your machine.

  1. Move the folder ~/Library/Mail/RSS into your Dropbox
    mv ~/Library/Mail/RSS ~/Dropbox/
  2. Make a symbolic link from the old location to the new Dropbox location. You can either use the terminal and type
    ln -s ~/Dropbox/RSS/ ~/Library/Mail/RSS

or use one of the tricks discussed in the other articles in the wiki to achieve the same thing.

Reopen Mail and your changes should begin to take effect while Dropbox syncs your RSS folder.

All changes in Mail RSS feeds should now sync with Dropbox and keep your RSS feeds fresh so there is no question of what you have already read.

I have had to restart mail a few times on different machines for it to work properly but it is all now working splendidly.
